Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has affirmed its unwavering commitment to deploying the latest technology and digital systems to increase the efficiency of police operations and improve the quality of security services, in light of the rapid transformation the world is witnessing in the field of technology and innovation.
The ROP Center for Artificial Intelligence and Future Technologies is one of the most prominent of these pioneering efforts. It embodies a strategic vision that predicts the future and leverages the power of artificial intelligence to analyze and develop data to deliver innovative solutions that enhance security and public services.
Colonel Hilal bin Mohammed Al Harasi, Director of Planning and Development at the Royal Oman Police, said the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence and Future Technologies Center reflects the directives of His Majesty the Supreme Commander, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, who emphasized the importance of focusing on artificial intelligence technologies to improve productivity and efficiency in a wide range of fields. He also emphasized the need to leverage AI technologies and promote legislation that makes these technologies key enablers and drivers in this area.

Colonel Al Harashi added: “The Royal Oman Police General Command is committed to adopting the latest global technology trends across all sectors. Artificial intelligence will be the foundation of future technological approaches aimed at increasing innovation, efficiency and productivity.” He pointed out that the center will strengthen the digital transformation of the Royal Oman Police by developing plans, programs and strategies related to artificial intelligence and future technologies and monitoring their implementation.
Al Harashi explained that the center’s objective is to identify current gaps and risks, develop operational models that ensure the integration of artificial intelligence technologies with existing security systems after a comprehensive assessment of technical, operational and security aspects, as well as develop artificial intelligence strategies and predict future trends. The center also aims to establish an ethical and legal framework to govern and regulate the use of artificial intelligence.
He pointed out that the center operates as a key component of ROP’s technology infrastructure and will solidify ROP’s leadership in this field by enabling all departments to implement artificial intelligence solutions and future technologies. He explained that the company’s current focus is on big data processing technology and automation of analytical tasks, and that the introduction of new technology requires rigorous security and operational evaluation.

Regarding the application of these technologies in police work, Colonel Al Harashi said: “The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Future Technologies aims to strengthen the ROP’s ability to use artificial intelligence applications for data analysis and future prediction. This will not only contribute to faster and more accurate decision-making, but also support a proactive approach when dealing with any situation or event.” He added: “Artificial intelligence applications will bring about a qualitative leap in the quality of electronic services provided to citizens and residents by improving the user experience, speeding up service access procedures and gradually moving from traditional electronic services to proactive ones. This will make it possible to predict the services users will need before they actually request them.” The Director of Planning and Development highlighted ROP’s commitment to data protection by applying the highest standards of governance and privacy and monitoring compliance with policies regulating data use through the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Future Technologies and the Center for Cybersecurity.
Colonel Al Harashi pointed out that the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Future Technologies is working on building strategic partnerships with universities, government, private and international organizations with the aim of exchanging knowledge, adopting research initiatives and strengthening police capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence and future technologies.
