Samsung Group will host an internal event where all affiliates will come together to develop and share next-generation IT technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative aims to accelerate the strengthening of internal capabilities by integrating the AI technologies of each affiliate.
According to an industry source on August 7, Samsung Group has been accepting case submissions for the “Samsung IT Innovation Awards” since last month. The competition lasted three months, with applications being accepted until August 20th, followed by the main round in September and the final in October.
The purpose of this competition is to discover and reward outstanding examples of Samsung affiliates who have achieved business outcomes based on IT innovation. It aims to enhance IT technology levels for all affiliates and promote best practices. It was launched as the Samsung Information Innovation Award in 2004, renamed IT Fair in 2015, and renamed Samsung IT Innovation Awards in 2023. The Grand Prize Winners will win 30 million winners, while the Gold Prize Winners will win 10 million wins along with the trophy.
This competition has led to electronic affiliates such as Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI and Samsung Electrical Machinery, as well as service affiliates such as Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung C&T, Samsung Biology, and Samsung SDS.
It is understood that the main criteria for competition this year are innovation, effectiveness, and scalability using AI technology. Last year, the AI Foundation model of Smart Factory Vision Inspection won the grand prize. Samsung SDI won a gold award for its cloud-based battery data platform, while Samsung Biologics was awarded on its Generated AI-based data platform for drug regulatory compliance.
Samsung has recently focused on building AI infrastructure and enhancing its business capabilities. The company established Innoex Lab on August 4th. It is a dedicated organization for developing humanoid robots, digital twin solutions, and physical AI. In May, we organized the “AI Productivity Innovation Group” within the DX division to improve employee productivity based on AI.
An industry insider said, “This is a platform for sharing AI know-how among affiliates and accelerating AI business innovation,” and “Samsung pursues fundamental change in technology, business and the overall organizational culture, placing AI at the center.”
