Colorado Gov. Jared Police recently signed the law on Senate Bill 25B-004. This delays the date of enforcement of the Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (“CAIA”) from February 1, 2026 to June 30, 2026. SB25B-004 does not modify the substantial requirements of CAIA.
Earlier this year, the Colorado Legislature discussed changes to the CAIA, but the 2025 regular session of the August 2025 Special Legislative Conference did not achieve a substantial change agreement. The delay in enforcement date is intended to provide additional time for Colorado Legislature to consider CAIA amendments at its regular 2026 legislative meeting, which begins in January 2026.
CAIA-eligible developers and deployers should continue to monitor legislative development in preparation for CAIA compliance.
