The AI Institute Alliance aims to lead the future of work through skill development and industry collaboration
Agent Orchestration Leader Workato® today announced the launch of the AI Institute Alliance. The launch represents an important milestone in Singapore’s AI workforce development environment and boosts the thriving local ecosystem of AI talent. In collaboration with education partners, the Nanyan Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, NGEE Anpolytechnic, Singapore University of Social Sciences, and the National University of Singapore – AI Institute Alliance aims to promote the next generation of workforce to promote the emergency capacity and automation of AI.
At the welcome address, Simon Chessman, senior director of AI Governance at AI Singapore and vice-president of the National University of Singapore, spoke about “Universities confused: higher education in the age of artificial intelligence.” He highlighted the opportunities and challenges facing universities and their students, as well as the changing role of education in the economic landscape being reshaped by AI.
“As AI disrupts traditional models of higher education, universities can benefit from collaboration with the industry, ensuring that alumni have the skills to survive and thrive in this brave new world,” Chesterman said. “It means understanding the possibilities and limitations of modern technology, being adaptable and resilient to identify and seize the next big thing, and accepting that you will never end your education.
The launch program also featured a panel discussion entitled “Bridging Education and Enterprise: The Next Generation of AI Leaders,” which explored the industry’s perspective on AI skills gaps and workforce preparation. The panel was hosted by Carter Busse, CIO of Workt, and was hosted by industry leader Colin Yip, regional head of IT, and Miguel Ho, Head of Process Automation for PSA’s Oceans and Fairys Group.
Based on proven success
This partnership is based on Workato’s previous contributions in the education sector in Singapore. Already equipped with essential automation and integration skills for more than 3,000 tertiary students through a comprehensive partnership, Workato is expanding its training to deliver advanced enterprise-level automation skills for students and educators to achieve a more professional impact. By fostering direct industry connections, this collaboration will address changing global employment needs and bridge the skill gaps in AI and automation technologies.
Throughout the training programme over the past three years, Workato has connected numerous industry partners and customers with emerging technical talent. This includes the Port of Singapore (PSA Singapore). This included six worker-certified students and Nanyanpolytechnic instructors to enhance the intern’s onboarding and off-boarding processes to build mission-critical IT automation. Encouraged by the success of PSA Singapore, NTUC FairPrice Group attracts certified students to support digital HR projects. This project uses MyApp, FairPrice’s in-house employee application, to be a central platform for staff members, and to apply for flexible work arrangements (FWAs). Behind the scenes, Workato manages records, API integrations, and related processes, explaining compliance with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) guidelines while improving employee convenience.
Combined with the company’s recent initiatives, including the Workato X IMDA National Developer Challenge, which has captivated Singapore’s brightest developers, students and civic engineers, Workato is working to connect educators directly with leading companies and promote knowledge transfer through guest lectures and learning journeys.
“The alliance presents our latest efforts to help Singapore become a global AI hub,” said June Lee, APAC, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Workato. “By bringing together major educational institutions with industry expertise, we create a pathway for the next generation of AI talent and drive meaningful transformation across the company. We are not only teaching technology, but shaping the future of work by creating a good job and a better life for all Singaporeans.”
Comprehensive human resource development
In collaboration with Singapore’s National AI Strategy 2.0, the partnership combines AI excellence with reskills and proficiency of individuals, businesses and communities. Through Workato’s Agent Orchestration Platform, participants gain hands-on experience and the skills to use AI confidently and responsibly. Participants will also receive mentorship from experts and secure internships with major companies across Workato’s ecosystem.
Additionally, Workato will partner with AI Singapore to sponsor the track at the National AI Student Challenge 2026. This includes learning to build AI agents that act as digital twins to increase workplace productivity, and applying generation AI tools to transform core business operations.
