YouTube has announced a similarity detection tool that will give creators more options to find content where “faces may have been altered or generated by AI.” The Google-owned video sharing platform announced in a blog post that new likeness management technology will help creators protect themselves from content generated by generative AI.
Available in YouTube Studio, creators can review flagged videos in the Content Detection tab after verifying their identity. If you think a video is unauthorized or generated by AI, you can submit a removal request. The feature was initially available among a small number of users and rolled out earlier this year, but the company is now offering a beta version to more creators.
YouTube said in a post that the similarity detection tool works similarly to Content ID, but searches for similarities between individuals instead of copyrighted content. When creators upload their faces when they set up the tool, YouTube’s systems scan new video uploads that may include other individuals’ faces to identify their faces.
However, the company warned users that the tool “may display videos featuring real faces, rather than modified or synthetic versions.” For example, you may come across short clips of YouTube videos that cannot be removed due to privacy policies. To use this new feature, open YouTube Studio, click (Content Detection) in the left menu, tap (Similarity), and press the (Start Now) button.
With the rise of AI-generated content, this tool helps content creators protect their privacy by allowing them to remove AI-generated or modified videos uploaded to YouTube. In recent months, Google has promoted a powerful free AI model that has contributed to the popularity of generated AI content. Recently, the tech giant announced Veo 3.1, a new AI model that includes support for both portrait and landscape videos, and promised to integrate with YouTube soon.
