OpenAI announced Thursday that it has acquired Software Applications Inc., a maker of an AI-powered natural language interface for Mac computers called Sky.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the companies said all members of Sky’s team will join OpenAI under the deal.
Although Sky isn’t generally available yet, the product is built to act as an AI companion for Mac users, helping them with tasks like writing, planning, and coding.
You can perform actions throughout your application, understand on-screen content, and execute commands through natural language prompts.
The deal comes as OpenAI looks to expand its reach across users’ daily workflows and tools by integrating Sky’s technology into ChatGPT.

Software Applications co-founder and CEO Ari Weinstein similarly said the partnership will bring the company’s technology to a broader audience.
“We have always wanted computers to be more powerful, customizable, and intuitive,” Weinstein said in a statement. “LLM allows us to finally bring the pieces together, and we’re excited to join OpenAI to help bring that vision to hundreds of millions of people.”
The companies added that more updates will be released as Sky is integrated into ChatGPT.
