Three Halifax Area AI companies receive federal investments from ACOA » The Laker News

Halifax: Three companies accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence have received more than $2.5 million in federal funding to help drive economic growth.

Federal investments were announced in Halifax on Friday morning by Lena Diab of Immigrants, Refugees, Citizenship and Halifax West MP. It was done on behalf of Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General and Attorney General, who is responsible for the ACOA.

In the release, the federal government said it is making strategic investments in businesses, organizations, entrepreneurs and leaders that are accelerating the adoption of AI and driving economic growth.

Diab has announced $2,506,250 to support artificial intelligence-related (AI) projects in three Halifax businesses.

The three businesses are:

•Liveable Cities, a division of LED Roadway Lighting Ltd., will receive $2 million (repayment possible) over two years to develop AI-powered streetlight controllers and cameras. The system provides real-time data to reduce energy usage by up to 30% and improve public safety.

The project will create skilled jobs, support international growth, and position the company as a leader in smart city technology.

•Oberland Agriscience Inc. receives $250,000 (repayment possible) to install AI-powered software and equipment that boosts production, improves efficiency and reduces waste. This technology improves product quality, supports new product development, optimizes formulations, reduces environmental impact, and relieves supply chain pressure.

•Kindred AI Inc. receives $206,250 (repayment possible) and $50,000 (repayment possible) to advance its real-time emotional intelligence software. This funding supports product development, engineering and commercialization, creating high-quality employment. The company’s tools help users track and grow their emotional intelligence and can be incorporated into other products.

Kindred will expand its key features, target new markets, including education and healthcare, and launch a marketing strategy to reach more clients and industries.

The Canadian government is making strategic investments to help AI adoption to promote real solutions, improve livelihoods, restructure industries and rethink what is possible.

REGI programs help businesses to speed up growth, increase productivity, compete on the global stage, make the most of new technologies, increase productivity, and reach new markets by creating new products.
