The YouTube Shorts video platform could soon start showing you AI versions of your favorite creators as you browse your feed. YouTube CEO Neil Mohan said Wednesday that creators will now be able to create short videos using their likenesses.
New Shorts feature: AI and creator portraits
“This year, you can create short videos using your own images, create games from simple text prompts, or experiment with music.”

“In this evolution, AI will continue to be a tool for expression, not a replacement.”
– Neil Mohan
According to Mohan, Shorts is already considered one of the most popular platforms on YouTube, receiving billions of views every day. The company continues to invest in the global development of shorts. This new feature complements our existing Shorts tools, including AI clip generation, AI stickers, and auto-narration.
The company has also prepared tools to manage the use of your likeness in AI-powered content.
The platform says it will allow creators to portray their own likeness in videos, while introducing safeguards against the use of others’ likenesses. YouTube is known to have previously introduced image detection technology that identifies content that uses the creator’s face or voice. Creators may request removal of such materials.
Like other social networks, YouTube is working to reduce the spread of low-quality AI content. “Over the past 20 years, we have learned not to impose preconceptions about the creator ecosystem,” Mohan says. “Today, previously bizarre trends like ASMR and watching videos of other people playing are becoming more common.”
In addition, YouTube plans to expand new formats of short videos, including image-based posts, which are already popular on other platforms.
YouTube’s efforts and plans are focused on developing AI-based content and expanding the tools available to creators.
