Openai helped fund AI tools that can reduce stress while staring at a huge spreadsheet.

The venture fund launched by OpenAI to invest in early-stage tech companies led Endex’s $14 million funding round that it resides in Microsoft Excel and said it created an AI agent to help process data, process financial tasks and write notes.

“Finance experts need structured thinking and deep analysis, not just search results,” said Tarun Amasa, CEO of Endex and recipient of Thiel Fellowship, in a statement. “We envision a future where every company has access to a team of digital analysts, seamlessly augmenting our time-consuming workflow.”

Based on Openai’s blog post, Endex is equipped with Openai’s inference model.

In a video that Amasa posted to X on Wednesday to announce the launch of Endex’s product, a screen displaying the word “Microsoft Excel” was replaced after glitch to display “Endex,” and then an AI agent briefly showed how Amasa works.

In the post below, Amasa also said that his team has spent most of the last year in the San Francisco office in Openry and offered to send limited invitations to those who comment under the post.

Microsoft and Openai did not immediately respond to requests for comments on how AI agents affect Excel products.

The two companies have competed and worked together for many years.

Microsoft has invested more than $13 billion in Openai since 2019, and is considered one of the company’s biggest backers. Instead, Microsoft has the right to access Openai’s intellectual property and resell it to customers through Azure’s Openai service, and to build its own products, including AI assistant Copilot, with technology.

However, Openai is beginning to compete directly with long-standing investors to build their own service products, such as ChatGpt Enterprise and Developer Tools. In 2024, Microsoft began listing Openai as a competitor to Annual Report.

“What I’m most excited about this collaboration is the shared vision of vertically distinctive AI,” Amasa said. “Our job goes beyond APIs. It’s about building an agent user interface that changes how financial analysts work.”
