Walmart is overhauling its artificial intelligence strategy by integrating numerous fragmented AI tools into four comprehensive “superagents” designed to simplify interactions and drive e-commerce growth.
The world’s largest retailer has announced plans to deploy these AI-powered superagents as the main interface for customers, employees, suppliers/sellers and software developers. This integration comes after building a number of specialized AI agents that are becoming confusing for users to navigate.
in LinkedIn PostWalmart’s Chief Technology Officer Suresh Kumar said the company is deliberately choosing to “build a unified, company-wide framework beyond individual tools.”
Sparky, a super agent for customers, is already available through the Walmart app. Its enhanced form helps shoppers to sort items, plan events, and propose recipes by analyzing customer’s fridge content through computer vision. Employee-centric Associate Super Agents streamline administrative tasks, such as submitting parental leave applications and accessing sales data.
For suppliers and advertisers, a super agent called “Marty” manages the onboarding process, processes orders, and creates advertising campaigns. The fourth superagent will serve developers as a platform for testing and launching future AI tools.
Walmart With a bet on AI innovation, we are promoting our goal of increasing online sales to 50% of total revenue within five years. The company reported annual revenue of $648 billion last year.
To support AI transformation, Walmart recently hired former Instacart executive dunker as executive vice president of AI acceleration, product and design, creating another executive vice president position focused on AI.
The company refused to identify whether a superagent would replace a job, but Dave Glick, senior vice president of Enterprise Business Systems, suggested that technology would create new roles without providing details.
Retailers connect a variety of agents using open source standards known as model context protocols. This allows the Super Agent interface to invoke internal apps and data sources with other small agents.
